Who Is Leonid Paktishev?
A leaked video showing several captured Russian soldiers in Luhansk has appeared on the internet. The video was posted on youtube and features Russian national Leonid Paktishev who claims to be a member of the self-proclaimed Donetsk Peoples Republic militia. In the video, Paktishev can be seen alongside other prisoners who are forced to listen to him bragging about his actions. In the video, captured Russian soldiers say that they have not been paid for 3 months and are hungry. Leonid Paktishev, a former volunteer of the Donbas battalion also told about the situation in the Russian army. A video has been leaked online of a group of captured Russian soldiers – wearing Ukrainian military fatigues. A well-known Russian war correspondent named Ilya Bogdanov posted the video on YouTube. Ironically, the point is made that Russian President Vladimir Putin had pledged he would use human shields to protect his own troops from NATO tanks and rockets. We asked this question back then: “Is Mr. Putin willing to sacrifice the lives of Russian troops?” We think now that he is. In the video, he’s shown making a speech in which he says: “If need be, we will resort to using human shields…”
